Compendium of the Sandinista Popular Revolution (1961-2020) This document was published in 2025 for a course through the Universidad en Línea for FSLN members and other interested people. Not only is it an excellent short history of the Nicaraguan people’s struggle, but the information on the living conditions of the people under the Somoza dictatorship and again during the neoliberal period (1990-2006), and how this dramatically improved once the Sandinistas were in power and then re-elected, is remarkable.
Becca Renk Foster, John Perry: US corporate media portrays violent Nicaraguan coup plotter as ‘political prisoner’ On October 1, 2026, Jeffrey Isaac Jarquin, a 35-year-old Nicaraguan man, was deported from the US by ICE and, on arrival in Managua, was immediately sent to prison by Nicaraguan authorities. Reports described him as a “torture victim,” a “political prisoner,” and a “prominent figure in the anti-government protests” that occurred in Nicaragua in 2018. His story was covered by the Washington Post, CNN, ABC News, The LA Times and other outlets. It featured on Democracy Now and he received support from the former head of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth. Not one of the reports, however, investigated Jarquin’s role in those “protests” nor recorded that in November 2018, he was found guilty of various acts of terrorism in Nicaragua and sentenced to more than 16 years in prison.

Resumen Latinoamericano: US Seizes Cuba-bound Fuel as Southern Command Resumes Murdering Boat Crews in the Caribbean US federal agents announced they had seized 90 shipments of biodiesel bound for Cuba at Port Everglades, Florida, and the Port of Houston, Texas. It was the second seizure of fuel headed for the island announced in a week. The roughly 620,000 gallons, valued at $2.8 million, were destined for ENETEC, a state-owned wholesaler in Havana. Five days earlier, the Coast Guard boarded a Comoros-flagged freighter with guns drawn on September 5, in international waters between Mexico and Cuba. Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossío called the seizures “piracy,” writing that it is “illegal, immoral and criminal to subject an entire people to economic asphyxiation as collective punishment for political ends.”
On October 4, US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) blew up another small boat in the Caribbean, killing four people. It offered no evidence beyond the assertion that “confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel’s active involvement in narcotrafficking.” The attack brings the death toll of the campaign launched in September 2025 to at least 235 in 70 strikes.
Granma: Cuba does not surrender, Cuba is not for sale, and Cuba does not forget Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of Cuba, described the gathering held on the morning of October 6 at the José Martí Memorial in Revolution Square as an act of remembrance, but also of resistance. The event paid tribute to the victims of the Barbados bombing—a terrorist act that claimed the lives of 73 innocent people.
