Statement of Solidarity with Cuba - Comunicado de Solidaridad con Cuba

The Nicaragua Solidarity Coalition stands in firm solidarity with the people of Cuba against the increasing threats of military aggression by the government of the United States. The US regime has been emboldened by years of impunity for its complicity with genocide in Palestine, and now displays an archaic and dangerous attitude of supremacy over the entire western hemisphere. This poses a danger to all countries, particularly those such as Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela that have adopted an independent path to development and foreign policy.

Our solidarity with Cuba recognizes the strong ties between the Cuban and Nicaraguan peoples. Not only was the revolution led by Fidel Castro an inspiring example to all peoples of the Global South toward their own liberation, but Cuban teachers and doctors also helped the Nicaraguan revolution born on July 19, 1979 to bring literacy and health care to its people. Cuban health collaboration continued even through the period from 1990 to 2006 when neoliberal governments held power in Nicaragua, and it was further strengthened with the return of revolutionary government in 2007.

Indeed, Cuban health solidarity extends worldwide, regardless of ideology, and has helped overcome some of the most difficult health crises of recent years. We deplore the fact that imperialist narratives, incapable of recognizing altruism among doctors, have demonized Cuban health missions in a vulgar ruse to gain political support among a wealthy and vocal minority of voters. Unfortunately, that reckless elite now holds outsized power in the current US regime and believes that its anti-communist dream of destroying the Cuban revolution can now be realized. It is the same class that has sent armed thugs into the streets of the United States to repress communities.

But we know they will not prevail. Just as the Venezuelan people remain strong in the face of a brutal attack on their country on January 3, 2026, the Cuban people remain firm in defending their homeland from foreign interference. While a 65-year-long cruel blockade has devastated the Cuban economy, causing tremendous hardship and even deaths, the Cuban people maintain their commitment to an independent, democratic, and just form of government. Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua are in the crosshairs of US imperialism first and foremost because they show how countries that prioritize human needs over profit can provide education, health care, housing, and development to their peoples. This is an example that US imperialists will not tolerate.

For all these reasons, we will continue to demand an end to all economic, informational, and military aggression against Cuba. We continue to uplift the cause of Cuba in our ongoing actions to defend Venezuela and to make our Americas a Zone of Peace. We urge people to support the solidarity campaigns and tours to Cuba offered by organizations such as the National Network on Cuba, the Saving Lives Campaign, and Codepink, and to demand the lifting of the criminal blockade of Cuba through SanctionsKill/Americas Without Sanctions. We demand the US military out of other countries and off of US streets!

La Coalición de Solidaridad con Nicaragua expresa su firme solidaridad con el pueblo de Cuba frente a las crecientes amenazas de agresión militar por parte del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos. El régimen estadounidense se ha envalentonado tras años de impunidad por su complicidad con el genocidio en Palestina, y ahora muestra una actitud arcaica y peligrosa de supremacía sobre todo el hemisferio occidental. Esto supone un peligro para todos los países, en particular para aquellos como Cuba, Nicaragua y Venezuela que han adoptado un camino independiente en materia de desarrollo y política exterior.

Nuestra solidaridad con Cuba reconoce los fuertes lazos que unen a los pueblos cubano y nicaragüense. La revolución liderada por Fidel Castro no solo fue un ejemplo inspirador para todos los pueblos del Sur Global en su camino hacia la liberación, sino que los maestros y médicos cubanos también ayudaron a la revolución nicaragüense, nacida el 19 de julio de 1979, a llevar la alfabetización y la atención en salud a su pueblo. La colaboración cubana en materia de salud continuó incluso durante el período comprendido entre 1990 y 2006, cuando los gobiernos neoliberales ocupaban el poder en Nicaragua, y se fortaleció aún más con el regreso del gobierno revolucionario en 2007.

De hecho, la solidaridad cubana en salud se extiende por todo el mundo, independientemente de la ideología, y ha ayudado a superar algunas de las crisis sanitarias más difíciles de los últimos años. Deploramos el hecho de que las narrativas imperialistas, incapaces de reconocer el altruismo de los médicos, hayan demonizado las misiones médicas cubanas en una vulgar artimaña para ganar apoyo político entre una minoría rica y ruidosa de votantes. Lamentablemente, esa élite imprudente ostenta ahora un poder desmesurado en el actual régimen estadounidense y cree que su sueño anticomunista de destruir la revolución cubana puede hacerse realidad. Es la misma clase que ha enviado matones armados a las calles de Estados Unidos para reprimir a las comunidades.

Pero sabemos que no prevalecerán. Al igual que el pueblo venezolano se mantiene fuerte ante el brutal ataque a su país el 3 de enero de 2026, el pueblo cubano se mantiene firme en la defensa de su patria frente a la injerencia extranjera. Aunque un cruel bloqueo de 65 años ha devastado la economía cubana, causando enormes dificultades e incluso muertes, el pueblo cubano mantiene su compromiso con una forma de gobierno independiente, democrática y justa. Cuba, Venezuela y Nicaragua están en la mira del imperialismo estadounidense, ante todo, porque demuestran cómo los países que dan prioridad a las necesidades humanas por encima del lucro pueden proporcionar educación, salud, vivienda y desarrollo a sus pueblos. Este es un ejemplo que los imperialistas estadounidenses no tolerarán.

Por todas estas razones, seguiremos exigiendo el fin de toda agresión económica, informativa y militar contra Cuba. Seguimos defendiendo la causa de Cuba en nuestras acciones continuas para defender Venezuela y hacer de nuestras Américas una Zona de Paz. Instamos a la gente a que apoye las campañas de solidaridad y los viajes a Cuba que ofrecen organizaciones como la National Network on Cuba, la Saving Lives Campaign y  Codepink.
